Jumping the Creep
Since my last podcast and some of my recent posts, I’ve been noticing a “creepy” meme everywhere. It seems I can’t watch a television show, read the news, or hang out with people without the word coming up. It makes me wonder what might be going on in the collective unconscious of the human race – subconscious fears as always I’m sure, played on by the media no doubt.
Anyway, here’s an article about a guy in Australia taking a selfie of himself with a Darth Vader cardboard standee. Some nearby children start talking to him and he responds only to have their mother take a picture of him and post it to Facebook implying the guy is a pedophile and claiming the guy is a “creep.” 20,000 social media shares later, friends of the guy start noticing the posts and alerted the guy who is embarrassed, has had his reputation tarnished, and is afraid afraid he might be hurt or have his property damaged from mob mentality from the incident.
The man headed for the police, who verified his story, and cleared him of any wrongdoing. He is considering legal options against the woman and calls on people to get their facts straight and to rely on actual news sources rather than social media for correct information.
